How Did We Make Those Drum Sounds?

September 29th, 2011

For this session, we raided my toolbox and stuck various nuts, screws, bolts and whatever else we could find inside the strings of the piano.  This is a technique pioneered by composer John Cage.  We didn’t follow his exactly measurements or materials, but used this idea as inspiration to make our random assortment of sonic mayhem.

Apple Store Preview

July 15th, 2011

On July 5th we invaded the Apple Store and presented our first performance and preview of the Hammer Inventions Record.  We played a few songs from the record and talked about the process of writing and creating the unique piano textures and sounds we use on the record.  Since we were part of Dave Earl’s Logic User’s group, Daniel opened some of the sessions of the songs we performed, ‘Into the Fold’ and ‘Vortex,’ showing the session workflow and how we utilized the EXS24 Sampler in Logic to import our original sounds into the sessions.  We are very excited to be invited back this fall to do an exclusive Friday Night concert at the Apple Store.  We hope to have details about that in the coming month.

Off and Running!

June 27th, 2011

Lots going on over in Hammer Inventions land.  Now we can start sharing our experience of making and playing this record for you on this website.  Today we worked on the mastering of the record with Rob Cross at Broken Radio in San Francisco (we are so close!!) and then had a rehearsal for our first preview gig at the Apple Store, San Francisco coming up next Tuesday July 5th during Dave Earl’s (sflogicninja) Pro Logic Users Group.  We will be playing a couple tracks from the record and discussing our collaborative process – super excited!  Official release date for the record has yet to be announced, but we will definitely have the album up for presale on bandcamp real soon.  Stay tuned In.
